Driving Tour Scotland - One day Itinerary

If you are travelling around Scotland you might want to spend a day or two in a beautiful Victorian town of Pitlochry which is an excellent base for exploring surrounding area. Pitlochry is situated in the heart of the highland areas with stunning scenery, various attractions, castles and distilleries.

 

This itinerary will take you to a famous viewpoint on Loch Tummel, then a scenic drive to Loch Tay where you can visit a reconstructed 2500 year old dwelling sitting over the lake. After lunch in a colourful highland village travel to Dunkeld where you can visit Dunkeld Cathedral and go for a woodland walk to a waterfall.

Driving Tour Scotland - 2 Day Itinerary

 

Highlights:  Cawdor Castle,   Aberlour distillery,  Eglin,  Speyside Cooperage,  Glenfiddich and other distilleries.

 

Just a short drive from Inverness and you will find yourself in the heart of Speyside – area along the river Spey where more than half of the distilleries in Scotland are located.

 

This one day tour will start with a visit to a 15th century castle set in beautiful gardens. After visiting the castle spend the rest of the day exploring Speyside and visit three world famous distilleries, see how the “water of life” is made. Stop for lunch and some shopping in Eglin. On the way back to Inverness enjoy a leisurely drive with views of Cairngorm mountain range.

 

Most people find that one or two distillery tours are enough to get an idea of how whisky is produced. Visiting other distilleries will give you a chance to enjoy beautiful countryside, see distilleries in different settings and do some serious whisky tasting and shopping.

This driving tour of Scotland offers you three very different days of exploring the Highland lochs and glens, castles, villages and remote parts of Scotland with overnight stay in towns with cosy hotels and delicious food.

 

On the first day of this driving tour you will travel north-west with stops in scenic places near beautiful Loch Lomond then you will have a chance to explore two famous castles. After lunch travel deep into the highlands, stop and admire spectacular Rannoch Moor and dramatic landscape of Glencoe.

 

Day two starts with a visit to the iconic castle – Eilean Donnan. On the way to the castle you will be driving along beautiful lochs and glens with forested mountains. After visiting the castle travel north to a remote village of Applecross. On the way to Applecross admire stunning views of this remote part of Scotland. After lunch enjoy a leisurely drive to Inverness through countryside with cliffs, gorges, cragged hills and spectacular sea views.
